Our Story
How it all began…
Founded and lead by me, Gina B. Wicker, Native Spun is a textile manufacturing company producing beautiful, high quality, handwoven textiles in North Carolina.
We are makers and fixers, but we are also moms, sons and daughters and members of the community, and we support each other both professionally and personally. From myself to the first employees, everyone is cross-trained and works together to build our brand and our business, and we have each other’s backs.
Our story began in the summer of 2019 when I purchased weaving equipment from Textillery Weavers and moved it to North Carolina for a new life at the Native Spun facility, part of an overall sustainability and reuse story that is important to us. I’ve long wanted to start a textile design company and recognized an opportunity when Textillery ownership decided to retire, making both the vintage weaving equipment and the Sunbrella throw license available.
My career spans over 35 years with leadership roles in textile design, creative direction, marketing and sales. I led design and marketing teams for 15 years at Glen Raven, Inc., owners of the Sunbrella brand. In that capacity, I brought Textillery into the fold as a licensing partner and worked with them to develop an exclusive line of handwoven Sunbrella throws.
Leading my own company and getting back to my first love – textile design – has been an adventure! We at Native Spun look forward to working with you to design and produce decorative throws, custom upholstery or some other handwoven textile that satisfies a not-yet-imagined design need.
